Mart POS: One Stock File and Several Cashiers

By Noman Aslam · Updated 2026-10-29 · 7 min read

A mart POS is one product list shared by every counter. Each cashier has a login and a shift. A sale on any counter reduces the same stock. At the end of the shift the drawer is counted against the cash, card, and other payments that till recorded, including returns. Purchase orders and a storeroom that is separate from the shelf are what keep the floor from selling stock that is still in the back. Loose goods and expiry still apply if the mart sells them.

One product file

A mart has too many barcodes for each counter to keep its own list. A price change has to reach every till. A new product is added once. Cashiers search or scan. They do not invent a price for a known barcode unless you have given them that permission, and then the change is visible in the day's report.

Shifts and the drawer

Each person opens a shift with a float and closes it with a count. The system already knows the cash sales, the cash refunds, and the float. The count is the number they type from the drawer. The difference is the report. Card and wallet totals are listed beside cash so a mixed sale is not a argument at closing.

Receiving and the back room

Suppliers deliver to the back, not to the customer's bag. A purchase or a goods receipt increases the storeroom. A transfer moves stock to the shelf that the tills sell from. Low stock is a list for the next order, based on what actually sold, not a guess from a walk down the aisle. Expiry and weight, if you sell food loose, are the grocery rules on top of this. They are not replaced by it.

Questions this page answers

Can two counters sell the last item?

They can try. The stock check happens when the sale is saved. The second sale should fail that line, or ask a manager, instead of taking the quantity negative without anyone noticing.

Do I need a separate app for the storeroom?

Not usually. Shelf and storeroom are two locations of the same product. A transfer moves quantity. A sale reduces the shelf. If you only have one room, one location is enough.

What belongs in the end-of-day report?

Sales by cashier, cash expected against cash counted, other payment totals, returns, and items that went negative or were overridden. Without the override list, the total can look tidy while the stock is wrong.
